GHG emissions from mining operations

A challenge for SNMPE

Deadline to apply:

Fecha abierta

Emisiones de GEI en las operaciones mineras.

CONTEXT OF THE PROBLEM

The mining industry is aware of the challenges that new times bring, which are closely linked to environmental sustainability. The SNMPE is currently in the implementation of its Climate Change Principle and in this way seeks to align the mining-energy union to promote the reduction of its emissions in order to reach decarbonization as a Country by 2050.

In this regard, the measurement of carbon emissions worries many companies, which consciously know that reducing emissions generates less impact on the environment. This is one of the reasons why calculating the carbon footprint is becoming a necessity. Currently 78% (45) MUs of the SNMPE do not have a carbon footprint measurement.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM

What look for a mechanism that allows associated companies to have an agile tool that allows them to quickly measure and report their emissions and that these reports can feed a central database within the SNMPE.

On the other hand, it is necessary to find solutions for the reduction of emissions in mining operations that can be accessible to economic and technical possibilities.

FREQUENCY OF THE PROBLEM

The frequency is continuous, due to the daily activities in the mining industry.

PARTIAL SOLUTIONS

There is NO solution to date.

IMPACT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem needs to be solved to respond to the SNMPE Climate Change Principle,
as well as reducing costs and emissions in each operation, which will improve the reputation of the company among its stakeholders.

QUANTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM

We do not have this data available.
